Financial security is more difficult to achieve in today’s economy in large part because of government policies that are completely contrary to free markets and human nature. Financial strength, intelligence and work ethic are vastly different among people. That may seem unfair because a lot of it has to do with luck and birthright. But that’s the way it is. Hierarchy is the norm in both the natural world and in human affairs.
Kevin Williamson of National Review believes society will have economic order in one of two ways: 1) Natural Order – through spontaneous, self-organization of systems of production and value; or 2) Unnatural Order – through political force – the man with the gun declaring ‘IT SHALL BE THUS!’
Natural economic order via capitalism is superior to forced, planned economy socialism. That’s a historic fact – not an ideological preference. And it’s true despite the doctoral dissertations of a generation of Ph.D’s in social architecture, as William F. Buckley, Jr. once observed. Relativism is nonsense when it comes to economics. Oliver Wendell Holmes reasoned “I prefer champagne to ditchwater, but there is no reason to suppose that the cosmos does.” That’s relativistic bullshit! Champagne’s better than ditchwater. Capitalism’s better than Socialism.
Russell Kirk believed that “a civilized society requires order and classes, as against the notion of a classless society”, which is unnatural and against human nature. “If the natural distinctions are effaced among men, oligarchs fill the vacuum”. That’s what’s happening now. You are flanked on your Left by a gigantic, inefficient, parasitic bureaucracy and on your Right by much more powerful, selfish elites, who don’t care at all about you or your family.
Fortunately, we are in a secure battle position. We are sheltered by Natural Order. Knowledge of this should alleviate anxiety and insecurity regarding our economic system or the level of your wealth. Once you’ve built some wealth, your Estate Planning War Chest protects your family’s lifestyle from both oligarchs and government planners. If you’re in the Mass Affluent demographic, you have enough money – go out and pursue your passions and interests – live and enjoy life to its fullest potential.
Rest easy! Toast to your success this holiday season and have some champagne. It’s much better than the ditchwater of socialism.
