The Power Elite

The current ruling class is one of the worst produced in the history of humanity.  I re-read Chapter 2 of Regime Change (2023) – The Power Elite – several times to confirm Deneen’s devastatingly dire conclusion about those now in power.  That Vox guy I mentioned a few weeks ago thinks “history’s worst elites” is an ‘overheated’ statement.  Afterall, Roman nobles could legally rape their slaves, many ancient regimes were murderous, French aristocrats stole from peasants and the early American South was centered around slavery.  Are current elites worse than that?

YES – because they are sneakily selfish, hypocritical, deceptive to themselves and others and most perniciously, they have caused death and misery for millions of poor souls.  Their beliefs and behaviors wreak havoc on the working class – deaths of despair, high divorce rates, non-marriage, out-of-wedlock children, addiction, un-underemployment, bankruptcy, disintegrating social connections and declining life expectancy.  The people now in power are absolutely the worst.   Read the chapter yourself.  Here’s an outline summary if you don’t have time.

Four aspects of the current ruling class distinguish it from its predecessors.  IT IS:

  1. A managerial elite – highly skilled and educated.
  2. Engaged in deep self-serving, self-deception and fierce status maintenance.
  3. Aggressively weaponizing Mill’s “harm principle” playing identity politics.
  4. Exercising power via private and semi-private entities – unaccountable to voters.
  1. Commitments of the managerial elite.
    • Placelessness – they can live and work anywhere – screw those who cannot.
    • Timelessness – they believe that the past (history/philosophy) is an irrelevant hinderance to their agenda.
    • Isolationists – complete disassociation and lack of any understanding or relationship with the working class.
  2. Self-deception and status maintenance.
    • Disdain for the masses – the powerless are denounced as oppressors and the powerful commend themselves as victims.
    • Impassioned commitment to equality distracts attention from their own advantages.
    • Obsession with “diversity” and “inclusion” veils an institutional fostering of this immoral elite.
  3. Identity politics and harm.
    • They believe truth is indeterminate – every point of view and lifestyle must be accepted.
    • Denies universal justice and morality standards and replaces classic philosophy with a minimalist standard – all beliefs, words and acts are allowed unless someone is “harmed”.
    • The power of the state and private entities aggressively enforce woke ideology, erasing traditional values.
  4. Economic power is wielded by non-public entities to advance “progressive” woke cultural positions.
    • Non-woke individuals and businesses are vilified by online mobs and woke corporations (who used to stay out of politics).
    • The forced imposition of “expressivism” on the population by the few results in misery of the many.
    • The power elite pursues the outright political, cultural and economic suppression and destruction of its opposition.

It’s bad.  If you’re following the trajectory and truth of all this, read these articles:

Future generations will be astounded at the incredulously misguided and vastly immoral beliefs of our current ruling class.  Next week, an Angel enters hell.
